Sherman assumes pulpit at Eureka First UMC

Rev. Joe Sherman, formerly of Prairie Grove, assumed ministerial duties at First United Methodist Church of Eureka Springs on June 22.

Sherman, who prefers to be called Joe or Brother Joe, served 15 years at Prairie Grove Methodist Church. He was also minister for a small church near Prairie Grove called Viney Grove Church.

Sherman was born in New York, but came to Arkansas at a very young age. He graduated from the University of Arkansas and received his master's degree from Memphis Theological Seminary.

He, his wife, Penny, an ex-marine, and her 18-year-old twins, Tara and Houston, are making their home in Eureka Springs. Sherman also has three grown children and one grandson.
