DEAN NEWMAN, a resident of Berryville, Arkansas was born April 13, 1924, in Berryville a son of Clyde Altus and Beulah (Fulton) Newman. He died Thursday, May 8, 2003 in this home at the age of 79.
Dean had worked in the Berryville Drug since the age of 16 and graduated from the St. Louis School of Pharmacy 1n 1944. Soon after he returned home to work for his aunts at the Berryville Drug which had been in business since 1939. After fifty-seven years as a pharmacist at the Berryville Drug he retired in the fall of 2001.
Dean had been active in the Downtown Merchants, the Rotary Club, the Arkansas Pharmacist Association, as well as other civic organizations. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Berryville.
Dean is survived by his three cousins, Peggy Newman Fancher and her husband, Frank, Larry K. Newman and his wife Jeannine, and Shirley Newman Porter and her husband Gene.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five aunts, Goldie Fulton, Mamie Fulton, Janie Fulton Carter, Mattie Fulton Newman, Mildred Fulton Jones, two uncles, Clay and Oscar Newman and many friends.
Graveside funeral services were held. Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at the Berryville Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Chuck Hammond officiating.
Interment was in the Berryville Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. Memorial donations may be made to the First Christian Church, P.O. Box 187, Berryville.
