Bobcat soccer teams playing now

Friday, March 7, 2003

The Berryville Bobcat soccer program is under way, according to team coach Tom Souden.

Souden reported this week that the Bobcat boys and girls managed to play some matches around the recent snowstorm, with the boys playing four matches and the girls one.

The teams will be playing in the AAAA Region 1 soccer division, composed of the following teams:

Berryville, Eureka Springs, Green Forest, Subiaco, Flippin, Greenwood, Siloam Springs, Huntsville, Harrison, Dardanelle, Clarksville, and Ozark.

Their next match is this Friday, March 7, a conference game at Huntsville. Team rosters weren't available at presstime, but will be included in future stories.

The Bobcat boys lost a close one to the Subiaco Trojans, 2-0, and had a good run on goal in the final half by Sergio Gil. The Trojans goalie made a great save to prevent Gil from scoring.

The Bobcats hosted Flippin at the high school football field and took a big 9-1 victory.

Sergio Gil scored several goals, with Martine Pedraza, James Flores, and Zachary Taylor also scoring goals.

Both teams played against Greenwood, with the Bobcat boys ending with a 4-4 tie. Coach Souden said Berryville was up 4-2 with 10 minutes to go, then Greenwood came back to tie.

Souden said Sergio Gil scored three goals, and Martine Pedraza one, with Eric Hill making a great save at goalie at the end to prevent another Greenwood score when he drew a foul.

The Lady Bobcats played their inaugural game and lost 4-0, although Souden said the team defended well. Souden said Stephanie Kline, Evangelina Perez, and Emma Cantele had good games.

The teams had games with Siloam Springs and Green Forest snowed out, then the Bobcats hosted Eureka Springs and took an 8-2 victory.

Coach Souden said Sergio Gil scored four or five goals, Martine Pedraza a couple, and one by Sergio Aguinaga.
