Robert W. McKinney

Robert W. McKinney, 83, of Holiday Island, died Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, in Springdale.

He was born Feb. 22, 1919, in Ozark, son of Verne and Bertha L. (Williams) McKinney.

Mr. McKinney was a chemist. He served his country with the United States Navy during World War II. He was a Holiday Island Commissioner, a member of the Holiday Island Volunteer Fire Department, and Neighborhood Watch. He was a member of the Holiday Island Community Church, where he was a dedicated member of the choir.

On May 2, 1941, he married Mary Nell (Gunther) McKinney, who survives him, of the home. He is also survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Dwain and Ari McKinney of Houston, Texas, and Richard Alan and Nancy McKinney of Baton Rouge, La.; four granddaughters, LaVerne McCormick and husband John of Sapulpa, Okla., Diana Rae McKinney of Houston, Wendy Leigh Lovell and husband Chad of Houma, La., and Elizabeth Ann McKinney of Baton Rouge; a grandson, Richard Alan McKinney Jr. of Baton Rouge; a great-grandson, Aiden Joseph Lovell of Houma; a sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Vogel Terhune of Tulsa, Okla.; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Verne and Bertha McKinney; a sister, Mary Alice Martin; and a brother-in-law, Roy Martin.

Memorial funeral services were held on Thursday, Feb. 13, at the Holiday Island Community Church, with the Rev. Francis Dale officiating. Arrangements were by Nelson Funeral Service.
