The Green Forest Tiger basketball teams won two of three from the Prairie Grove Tigers on the road Tuesday night, with the senior boys taking a big 63-53 1AAA win that left them 9-12, 5-6.

The junior girls also won, 36-35, making their record 10-11, 5-2, with the senior girls taking the lone loss, 53-42, to 1AAA's top team. The loss moved them to 12-11, 3-8.

Green Forest vs. Prairie Grove

8-7, 28-24, 48-37, 63-53

"We played good defense, blocked out, attacked their zone, and got some good looks at the basket," Coach Jeff Morrow said after the win. "Kevin Hartsell shot well, and Jordan Dudley hit the boards hard and kept balls alive. Hartsell had a double-double. It's his best game."

Hartsell scored 13 points and had 13 rebounds, but Austin Lasater led the team once again with 23 points, hitting four threes along the way.

"Seth Lowery shot well and hit some big shots," Morrow said. Lowery netted 15 points and was a perfect 6 of 6 at the line. The team made 17 of 22 free throws, 7 of 8 in the fourth to hold the win, which was needed when Prairie Grove hit four treys in the final five minutes.

"Finally, we looked aggressive, not passive, and when we started to fade out at the end, people brought us back up. We were more aggressive as a team, and had good play off the bench. I was real pleased with the effort and intensity.

"It all came at the right time. We were focused and hit our free throws good."

8-14, 16-29, 21-42, 42-53

The Lady Tigers' Dana Idlet, all 6-3 of her, loomed under the basket on defense all night and frustrated Green Forest when they beat Prairie Grove's press.

"They pressed us all night, but we beat it and went for layups," Coach Mike Gotcher said. "But we missed them with Idlet standing back there. I guess it was too much big girl. We got good looks, just didn't put it in the hole."

Idlet not only intimidated on defense, but had a double-double by halftime. She scored 16 points and had 12 rebounds, plus three blocks by the break, and finished with 23 points for the night.

Sophomore Maribeth Waters was the big answer for Green Forest, scoring 22. Kara Whiteley netted 7, Summer Williamson 5, Lisa Plagge and Brittany Gotcher 3 each, and Terri Tidyman 2.

13-6, 19-12, 28-24, 36-35

Green Forest's LaRae Jones got the biggest of her 11 points when she went 90 feet with just seconds left in the game after a missed Decatur free throw, and made the winning layup for a 1-point victory.

"LaRae scored four points in the fourth," Coach Gotcher said. "We played well in our 1-3-1 defense, held them off, and LaRae made some big baskets.

"We were up 10 late, then they went on a 13-0 run and were up three on us with about 30 seconds to go. We scored, then fouled them two times in a row, but they missed, and LaRae got the rebound and went the length of the floor and scored. The kids played hard."

Haley Roney and Phylicia Shelton chipped in 7 points each, Courtney McGehee and Sara Waters 4 each, Kasey Barinsky 2, and Nicki Kilbourn 1.
