Tale of Tigers goes to Lead Hill

Wednesday, January 9, 2002

It was a junior-high tale of two Tigers last Thursday when Green Forest traveled to Lead Hill for four games.

Lead Hill took the junior boys' game, 46-33, and the junior girls' game, 40-22. Green Forest won both seventh-grade games, 28-25 for the seventh boys, and 15-6 for the seventh girls, who are now 11-0.

JUNIOR BOYS

2-17, 6-27, 12-41, 33-46

"They pressed us, but we handled that," Coach Jeff Morrow said. "But they were taller and we didn't block out. We also didn't get any shots to fall and were down 17-2 in the first quarter."

Coach Morrow suited out just 8 players for the game, as a number didn't make practices during the holidays. That, and a long layoff, didn't help in the Junior Tigers' first return to action since Dec. 17.

Scoring for Green Forest was C.J. Matthews with 16, Guy Joubert 8, Zack Sutton 3, and Neal McCutcheon, Brett Conner, and Aaron Fitchue with 2 each.

For Lead Hill, Scott Parsley and Jeremy Clary had 10 each.

JUNIOR GIRLS

2-10, 8-26, 15-36, 22-40

Coach Mike Gotcher's squad had six players score, but Courtney McGehee was the only Lady Tiger to score in double figures with 11. That wasn't enough to handle a 15-5 Tiger squad, or enough to offset their aggressive pressing, running and shooting. Whitney Ray scored 16 points for Lead Hill.

For Green Forest, LaRae Jones scored 3, and Summer Williamson, Nicki Kilbourn, Becky Strodtman, and Marilee Goforth 2 each.
