We must act as better role models
(High School Sports ~ 11/29/16)
"If you are going to foul him, at least get your money's worth." This is a quote that has no place in basketball, not even in the NBA. Sadly, I heard this at a high school basketball game earlier this week. As many of you may know, the Green Forest, Berryville and Eureka Springs volleyball teams have students who serve as line judges for their matches. ...

New wrestlers must step up for BV
(High School Sports ~ 11/29/16)
The Berryville wrestling team lost a state champion in Garrett Record last year, along with Ethan King, Dakota Smith and Griffin Payne, all of whom placed at the state wrestling tournament a year ago. The Bobcats return many key wrestlers, though, including Christian Lemus, Keaton Hoft, Kris Grile and Robert Allen. This gives coach Matt Ferguson hope as the season begins...

Big lead slips away from GF
(High School Sports ~ 11/29/16)
It was another great effort by the Green Forest Tiger basketball team on Tuesday, but the Tigers fell short in an 81-57 loss at Omaha. "Overall, the kids played harder than they did against Western Grove," Green Forest coach Brandon Stone said. "We made more shots, but they made more free throws than we attempted."...

Bobcats get win heading into Thanksgiving break (High School Sports ~ 11/29/16)
BERRYVILLE -- It can be tough to get excited to play a basketball game two days before Thanksgiving, but the Berryville Bobcats were ready to go Tuesday evening in a 49-41 home victory over the Cassville (Mo) Wildcats. "We didn't shoot the ball as well as we normally do, and that probably had a lot to do with them," Berryville coach Brent Compton said. ... -

Bobcats win; Compton hopes to see improvement
(High School Sports ~ 11/29/16)
Going into Saturday's game against Lead Hill at the Omaha Border Classic, the Berryville Bobcats were still stuffed from their Thanksgiving dinner. The Bobcats won, 65-56, but coach Brent Compton said his team is capable of playing much better. "We played well at the beginning," Compton said. "We had as much as a 17-point lead, but we got in some foul trouble in the second quarter and that hurt us. We really were never able to put them away there in the third quarter."...

Lady Bobcats get tested by GF (High School Sports ~ 11/29/16)
For anybody who is still wandering if the Green Forest Lady Tigers have truly made an improvement from a year ago, look no further than Saturday's 49-45 loss to Berryville. Yes, it's a loss, but the Berryville Lady Bobcats were one game away from playing for the class 4A state championship last season, while the Green Forest Lady Tigers didn't win one conference game... -

Thanksgiving thoughts
(Column ~ 11/29/16)
Thanksgiving is the one day each year that we set aside specifically to count our blessings. This year, I had a little extra counting to do. My grandson, Liam, celebrated his first Thanksgiving this year -- eight days before his first birthday. And while he might not have completely understood or enjoyed the experience (he was definitely NOT a fan of his Thanksgiving-themed hat), his Pops definitely did...

BV student helps spread Bobcat Pride (State News ~ 11/29/16)
There will be a lot more students wearing purple and gold at Berryville pep rallies and ballgames soon. That was the goal of Berryville freshman Jacey Howerton when she began the "Pass the Bobcat Pride" project. Howerton has been working with the school district the past few months to set up baskets in each school office where staff and students can drop off gently used or new Bobcat shirts, or other spirit wear. ... -
Survey says: Berryville residents participate in development project
(Local News ~ 11/29/16)
"I love that I can walk to almost everything and that I can do so at any time day or night and feel safe -- yea! Berryville!" was just one example of the responses to the question "What do you love about Berryville?" on the recent survey the city of Berryville sent to area residents, and, of course, one respondent wrote, "Not a Single Thing." The survey was designed to get feedback from the community as part of the planning for an economic development strategic action plan...
