The Carroll County Thunder 11-year old baseball team finished second in the Cal Ripken Jr. district tournament last Saturday in Bentonville. The Thunder played two games of pool play, defeating Harrison 22-1 and Springdale 9-3. That gave the Thunder a No. 2 seed heading into bracket play. Carroll Electric Cooperative has awarded a full tuition scholarship to Austin Gasaway of Bergman to attend Arkansas State University's High-Voltage Lineman Technology Program. Corrinna Francheska Campbell-Green is the Eureka Springs Rotary Student of the Year. The daughter of Pamela Campbell and David Green, Campbell-Green graduated from Eureka Springs High School with a grade point average of 3.95. She completed her high school education in three years and will move on to Hendrix College this fall. She received academic pins in all courses, was named the Eureka Springs Rotary Student of the Month in 2014 and was president of the Rotary Interact Club. Her name was added to a permanent plaque, and $100 was donated to The Purple Flower in her honor. (Submitted photo) -

Weather poses drought danger for county

High temperatures have not only had Carroll County residents sweating, but also pose a risk of drought for the area. Joe Sellers, a hydrometeorological technician with the National Weather Service in Tulsa, Okla., said Carroll County has experienced higher than average temperatures this June.
