Two Carroll County sites are among 23 Arkansas properties being considered for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. They include the water tower in Green Forest and a "Charcoal Gap Tunnel" northeast of Eureka Springs. ARTIE SMITH GUNNELS, a resident of Eureka Springs, was born April 14, 1917, in Carroll County, a daughter of Causby and Bessie (Bilyu) Smith. She died Thursday, March 22, 2007, in Eureka Springs at the age of 89. Mrs. Gunnels was a homemaker. She is survived by one son, Sherl Gunnels of Eureka Springs; three brothers, Roscoe Smith, Donald Gene Smith, and Leon Smith, all of Berryville; three sisters, Ovown Enix Gilmore of Harrison, Juanita Anderson of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Dorothy Lee Terry of Berryville; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other family and friends.. ...
