Eureka's Ashton Thurman settled all doubts last Thursday when he outran the field in the 800m dash at the Class AAA State Track Meet in Hot Springs to become the undisputed state champion in that event. Overcoming injuries sustained during cross country season, and an elbowing incident during the first lap of the race that almost knocked him down, Thurman fought off a solid field of competitors to finish in 2:00.27, just a flicker away from his goal of breaking two minutes in that race...

Athletes from Eureka Springs, Berryville, and Green Forest made their marks and did the county proud at the Class AAA State Track Meet, held last Thursday at Hot Springs High School. Highlander Ashton Thurman won the 800m dash to take top honors of all Carroll County runners, but any finish in the top eight at this meet is a big accomplishment.
