Horror History: 'House of Wax' (1953)
Posted Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at 2:58 AM

"House of Wax" opened in theaters on this day in 1953. The famous flick was Warner Bros. Pictures first 3-D feature film. Although "House of Wax" is often officially credited as Vincent Price's first horror movie, that distinction still technically resides with "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein" (1948). Price "appeared" in a cameo at the film's end, as the voice of the Invisible Man. And It's nice to be able to affiliate the movie maestro Price with the Universal Monsters.
Another actor famous for her association with the macabre also appears in "House of Wax." Carolyn Jones, who portrayed Morticia in The Addams Family television show, plays the leading lady, Cathy Gray. Charles Bronson starred as Igor.
