'THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW' Celebrates its 40th Anniversary

"We could take in an old Steve Reeves Movie"
HORROR HISTORY -- MILESTONE!
Today marks the 40th anniversary of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" (1975). TRHPS had its London premiere on this day in 1975; TRHPS later debuted in Los Angeles on September 26, 1975. The film is based on the stage play, with the same name, that opened in 1973.
Although the movie was panned by most critics, TRHPS almost immediately became a cult classic. Beginning with showings at the Waverly Theater in New York City in 1976,
TRHPS quickly cultivated audiences into participating with the motion picture.
This catapulted TRHPS to a midnight-showing mainstay, which continues, most notably, on the holiday of Halloween each year.
FUN FACTS:
-- TRHPS is always playing, in theaters and always has been, since its opening 40 years ago. And since it has always been in, at least, limited release, TRHPS is the longest-showing theatrical release in film history.
-- TRHPS even spawned a sequel titled "Shock Treatment" in 1981 following the characters of Brad (Asshole) and Janet (Slut) as a young married couple. "Shock Treatment" also featured many of the same actors from TRHPS.
