'THE WALKING DEAD' -- NEGAN "on the horizon"

Actor Andrew Lincoln talks about the villainous Negan coming to The Walking Dead..."on the horizon."
"There are astonishingly brilliant and thrilling characters that I am convinced we would be idiots not to meet in our journey," Lincoln told the Hollywood Reporter this week. "I would be very surprised if we don't see Negan on the horizon in the not-too-distant future."
"What struck me, that I've always been excited about, is we're coming into the sixth season of this show ... and it's the medieval part of The Walking Dead comic, where you realize that there are these isolated communities but don't really know other ones exist," Lincoln continued. "But they're all building and forming themselves with their own image. And then there's a clash of those communities."
"That, to me, is really interesting and when it gets really exciting with all the action. It turns into this insane, near-apocalyptic landscape that we've never seen before. That is almost a re-imagining and a restart for society and humanity. And that is such a rich thing to tell."
MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!!!! DO NOT READ FURTHER, IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW THE IMPORTANCE OF NEGAN' S ARRIVAL.
In the comic books, Negan leads the Saviors. This group of survivors does what is necessary to make it in the apocalypse, as they kill humans and walkers alike. Negan is also responsible for one of the most controversial kills in the comic series, as he murders an original member of Rick's group -- Glenn.
After being captured by the Saviors, Negan bashes Glenn's skull in with his baseball bat dubbed "Lucille." Glenn tries calling out for Maggie, whimpering her name, as he perishes from Negan's vicious attack. Rick swears to a grief-stricken Maggie that he will avenge Glenn's death.
Rick later battles Negan and slits the monster's throat. Despite the wound, Negan breaks Rick's leg before passing out. Negan is imprisoned rather than killed by Rick in the end, in a most unsatisfying conclusion.
"The Walking Dead" airs Sundays at 8 p.m. CST on AMC.
