New 'ALIEN' film will disregard half the orignal franchise

Filmmaker Neill Blomkamp's "Alien" project will take place following the events of "Aliens" (1986) and disregard "Alien 3" (1992) and "Alien: Resurrection" (1997).
"I want this film to feel like it's literally the genetic sibling of Aliens," said Blomkamp. "So it's Alien, Aliens, and then this movie."
Both Blomkamp and actress Sigourney Weaver want to give the character of Ellen Ripley a more satisfying farewell.
"I would love to take Ripley out of orbiting around in space, and give a proper finish to her story", said Weaver.
The original "Alien" (1979) was a horror film, which morphed into more of a Sci-Fi vehicle with "Aliens."
"It's a Freudian nightmare. That element to me is what is so appealing," said Blomkamp. "To try to put the audience on the edge of their seat, in a traditional 'monster stalking you in a dark corridor way."
The new film does not have a release date yet.
