'The WALKING DEAD:' What does Aaron's arrival mean for Rick and the group?

Last week on "The Walking Dead," a mysterious man introduced himself to the group. Is he friend or foe? Find out more in tonight's episode "The Distance" at 8 p.m. on AMC. Want to know who Aaron IS, at least in the comic books? Keep reading.
SPOILER ALERT: MAJOR SPOILERS FOLLOW!!!!
Aaron is the predominant recruiter for the Alexandria Safe Zone. This haven is only a few blocks of streets in Alexandria, Virginia, which is about six miles from D.C.
Aaron is a good guy that eventually wins over Rick and his group of survivors. After having watched them from afar for quite a while, Aaron and his boyfriend Eric convince Rick and the others to both join the Safe Zone and venture to Washington D.C. together.
Aaron's appearance marks a pivotal moment in the comic books, and the death of an original, beloved character, as the War against the Saviors occurs in the immediate future. The Saviors are a formidable group of survivors who use a gigantic factory surrounded by a wall of impaled and bound zombies as their base of operations.
After Dwight (a Savior member) murders Abraham, the Saviors eventually use Eugene to take them to the Safe Zone and try to force Rick to let their vicious members inside.
Many Saviors and survivors fall in the war, but the most traumatic is when one of the originals of the series is murdered by the leader of the Saviors -- Negan.
Negan and the Saviors ambush several of Rick's group and takes them prisoner. With his baseball bat, which he has nicknamed Lucille, Negan beats Rick's best friend Glenn to death. Rick vows to an inconsolable Maggie that he will not rest until he avenges Glenn's death.
Rick eventually confronts Negan and slashes the monster's throat. Despite bleeding out, and being horrifically wounded, Negan breaks Rick's leg before succumbing to the wound.
Later, Negan comes to and realizes he is imprisoned rather than dead. Rick has spared Negan's life, despite Glenn's death.
