Halloween Happenings: TALES OF THE CRYPT

I love this time of year and the promise of All Hallow's Eve just around the corner. Summer subsides and cool, dark nights invite family and friends to partake in the spectacle and fun that Halloween provides.
Cities become playgrounds for children and adults alike. Shadowy towns, murky streets and otherwise dim homes and businesses are bathed brightly in parties, pumpkin patches, haunted houses and unlimited trick-or-treating.
2013 seems to be no exception, as I have researched and collected scores of Halloween Happenings occurring all through the Natural State over the next 40 days. Today's entry is Little Rock's own TALES OF THE CRYPT.
This year marks the 19th anniversary of Tales of the Crypt and the event is sponsored by Mount Holly Cemetery Association and Parkview Arts-Science Magnet High School. Arkansans familiar with "Crypt" know that the second Tuesday of October is reserved for the festivities each year.
Fred Boosey & Tamara Zinck direct drama students from Parkview Arts & Science Magnet High School. The kids research and discover as much as they can about one of those buried in the Mount Holly Cemetery. The students then prepare monologues and/or dialogues, in which a performance piece is given that includes period costumes. The performances are rendered in front of their selected person's grave.
Debi Manire, a local award-winning costume designer, will provide historical characters' costumes. Audiences will be lead through the cemetery from grave to grave by guides carrying candles.
TALES OF THE CRYPT will be at Mount Holly Cemetery, 1200 South Broadway in Little Rock on Tuesday, October 8, from 5:30 pm until 8:30 pm.
Admission is free, however the public is encouraged to give donations to Mount Holly Cemetery, which are deeply appreciated and aid in the maintenance of the cemetery.
