FIRST LOOK: 'FRIGHT NIGHT 2'

Despite its baddie being played by A-List actor Colin Farrell, "Fright Night" (2011) made just over $18 million domestically. And with those disappointing box office returns, the Fright Night franchise is obviously DOA, right?
I don't know how excited I should be as a horror lover, and a huge fan of the original "Fright Night" (1985), but "Fright Night 2: New Blood" is coming this fall and apparently direct to DVD. Look, red flag No. 1.
I'm not sure why it's been titled "Part 2," because the new film is yet another remake of the '85 classic and the 2011 reboot. All the main characters are back, and none of the cast of the 2011 film return. Hmm, there's red flag No. 2.
The core of the story and the central characters remain the same with one enormous exception. The most absurd or brilliant change, depending on your point of view, is the transformation of antagonist Jerry Dandridge into a female -- Gerri Dandridge, played by the sultry Jamie Murray. As great as Miss Murray might be, insert the biggest, baddest red flag at No.3.
Despite all those red flags, I guarantee I will be one of the first to plunk however much it costs to see the new movie.
Charley Brewster (Will Payne), his girlfriend Amy Peterson (Sacha Parkinson) and outcast "Evil" Ed Bates (Chris Waller) must team with vampire killer Peter Vincent (Sean Power) to thwart the evil Miss Dandridge who is a blood-sucking vampire hiding behind the facade of a visiting professor.
"Fright Night 2: New Blood" opens October 1, 2013
