Doomsday, the monstrous character which first appeared in the comic book title Superman: The Man of Steel #17, has joined the ever expanding roster of playable characters in next month's video game "Injustice: Gods Among Us."
In Superman #75, the comic featured an epic battle in Metropolis between Superman and Doomsday, in which the Man of Steel died while defending the city. Check out the new trailer (below) featuring gameplay from the video game between Doomsday and another new playable character: Captain Marvel.
Joining Doomsday and Captain Marvel as new playable characters are Sinestro, Hawkgirl and Aquaman. You can view the current roster of 20 playable characters (below). Other characters appearing in the game, but may not be playable, include Darkseid, Two-Face, the Riddler, the Penguin and Killer Croc.
The Guardians of the Universe and a number of members of the Green Lantern Corps including Tomar-Re and Kilowog also appear, as does Giganta, Gorilla Grodd and the Atom Smasher.
However, Black Adam, Raven and Ares are three fighters that have been rumored to be joining the list of playable characters, but this is unconfirmed at this time.
There are a number of pre-order bonuses that will be available to gamers who know where to get the best bang for their buck. Order from Wal-Mart to receive the Arkham City skin pack, which includes downloadable costumes for Batman, Joker and Catwoman along with a copy of Mortal Kombat vs. D.C. Universe.
Best Buy and Amazon Germany will offer a Blackest Night DLC Pack including an alternate Batman skin and a feature that transforms all characters into undead zombies.
The most intriguing extra feature is offered by Game, EB Games and GameStop outlets. Copies of the video game here will feature a Red Son DLC pack based on the Superman: Red Son comic book series (see video game trailer below).
Those comics played with the notion of what would have happened if Superman had been found/raised in Russia rather than Smallville, Kansas. The pack includes alternate skins based on Red Son concepts for Superman, Wonder Woman and Solomon Grundy. The pack also includes 20 additional missions based on the Red Son storyline.
"Injustice: Gods Among Us" hits stores on April 16, 2013.
