BOOYAH: Remembering a Broadcasting Icon -- Stuart Scott

"He was a man, take him for all in all. I shall not look upon his like again." -- HAMLET: Act I, Scene 2.
He was just as cool as the other side of the pillow. Heck, Stuart Scott was more than that, he actually coined the expression. Scott's indelible catch phrases and energetic sports-casting engaged a vast audience, and this sports writer's attention in particular. Sadly, his light burned out much too soon.
Scott passed away from cancer on Sunday. He was only 49-years-old. Scott was a keystone for ESPN over the years, since his humble beginnings in 1993, as he eventually made his mark on Sportscenter, as anchor. The man with the fulsome flair and an infectious smile covered a multitude of sports, including everything from the NBA to NFL, and he interviewed innumerable sports stars like Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal, Tiger Woods and Derek Jeter.
Jordan reached out through his publicist to express his thoughts on the passing of his old friend. "I'm so sad to hear the news that Stuart has passed away, Jordan said. "He was truly a trailblazer in his field and, by refusing to change his style, made himself into a star."
"I always enjoyed sitting down to talk to him," Jordan continued. "But to me he wasn't just a broadcaster, he was an old friend who I'd known since college. He fought so hard against cancer and I hoped he'd win the battle. I sent my sincerest condolences to his daughters, Taelor and Sydni, and his family and friends. Booyah, my brother."
Scott even had one-on-ones with former President Bill Clinton and current Commander-in-Chief Barack Obama.
"I will miss Stuart Scott," Obama said via a statement from the White House. "Twenty years ago, Stu helped usher in a new way to talk about our favorite teams and the day's best plays. For much of those twenty years, public service and campaigns have kept me from my family --- but wherever I went, I could flip on the TV and Stu and his colleagues on SportsCenter were there."
"Over the years, he entertained us, and in the end, he inspired us -- with courage and love. Michelle and I offer our thoughts and prayers to his family, friends, and colleagues."
LeBron James also sent his thoughts out via Instagram, regarding his friend. "Can't believe you're gone from us," said James. "I am deeply saddened because not only will not be replaced as a anchor or reporter but more than that as a genuine cool person. What u did for our culture, bringing that Swag to reporting can only be copied(which I hear it today on tv watching sports)."
"I would say not because they stealing your swag, it's all out of RESPECT," James continued. "It was always a breath of fresh fun air when u would show up and we'd chat up. Thank you so much for being u and giving us inner city kids someone we could relate to that wasn't a player but was close enough to them."
Scott's place in the pop culture far surpassed the sports world when he became the subject of parody via the popular television show Saturday Night Live in the 1990s. Actor Tim Meadows brought Scott's energy and enthusiasm to life through a respectful and utterly entertaining impression that left audiences and fans alike laughing. Stuart Scott's long battle with cancer ended on Sunday and he is survived by his two daughters, Taelor, 19,and Sydni, 15. It seems only fitting that the man himself should have the last word.
"When you die, it does not mean that you lose to cancer," Scott said to the audience at the 2014 ESPY Awards, while being honored with the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance. "You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live."
