2014 MLB POSTSEASON: Match ups and Schedule

The hunt for October has begun...
More specifically, the hunt for October 21 is underway. That is the start of the 2014 Fall Classic aka the World Series. Notably absent from this year's postseason are the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Texas Rangers, Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves.
Nonetheless, 10 Major League Baseball teams have survived their respective 162-game schedules and marched into the 2014 MLB Postseason.
Here's how it works: The field includes 2 Wild Card teams, from each league (the American and National), meeting in a 1-game playoff for the right to compete in the best-of-5 Division Series (2-2-1 format). The League Championship Series and World Series are best of 7 games (2-3-2 format).
The postseason gets underway Tuesday night, as the Kansas City Royals (89-73) host the Oakland Athletics (88-74) in the 1-game AL Wild Card. First pitch: 7 p.m. TV: TBS
The winner will advance to take on the Los Angeles Angels (98-63) in one ALDS match up, while the Baltimore Orioles (96-66) host the Detroit Tigers (90-72) in the other ALDS. Both series begin on Thursday, October 2 and will air on TBS.
The ALDS winners will face off in the ALCS, which begins on Friday, October 10. The ALCS will also air on TBS.
The Pittsburgh Pirates (88-74) host the San Francisco Giants (87-74) in the 1-game NL Wild Card on Wednesday, October 1. First pitch: 7 p.m. on ESPN.
The winner will advance to take on the the Washington Nationals (96-66) in one NLDS match up, while the Los Angeles Dodgers (93-68) will host the St. Louis Cardinals (89-72) in the other NLDS. Both series begin on Friday, October 3 and will air on Fox Sports 1.
The NLDS winners will face off in the NLCS, which begins on Saturday, October 11. The NLCS will also air on Fox Sports 1.
The winner of the ALCS will then face the winner of the NLCS in the World Series, which begins on Tuesday, October 21. The Fall Classic will air on FOX.
