ARKANSAS @ TEXAS TECH -- PREVIEW

Texas Tech (2-0) has declared a black out for today's game with the Arkansas Razorbacks (1-1). The Red Raiders will sport black, throwback uniforms from their 1992-1995 seasons.
Arkansas last played their old Southwest Conference rival in the 1991 season in Lubbock, Texas. The Red Raiders humiliated the Hogs that day, 38-21. Former Razorbacks head coach Ken Hatfield swept the Red Raiders in his last three seasons:
1987: W at Tech (31-0)
1988: W at Little Rock (31-10)
1989: W at Tech (45-13)
Now, focusing on today's game, the Razorbacks are coming off a 73-7 thrashing of Nicholls State, while Tech won their first two games of the season.
However, the Red Raiders just squeaked by Central Arkansas (UCA) in Lubbock 42-35 and then defeated UTEP 30-26 in El Paso. Texas Tech has a stellar passing game. However, will sophomore quarterback Davis Webb be able to throw the ball efficiently against an SEC defense?
The Red Raiders are averaging 365 passing yards a game, and Webb has seven touchdowns, while the Texas Tech defense is only allowing 172 yards through the air a game.
Webb's primary targets are senior wide receiver Brad Marquez and junior speedster Jakeem Grant. Both men are averaging around 100 yards receiving a game.
Tech has also been able to move the ball on the ground to the tune of 205 yards a game. But the opportunity for Arkansas is again with their ground game. Tech is giving up 227.5 yards a game on the ground and it's been against, let's be honest, rush offenses unlike what the Hogs can put on the field.
The Razorbacks are going to have to perform for a full game on the road. There's no question that Lubbock is much less hostile an environment compared to Auburn, which the Razorbacks played in two weeks ago, but it's still an away game for the Hogs. It's going to be tough mentally and both the Arkansas offense and defense better be up for the challenge.
Director of the Double T Varsity Club and former Red Raider quarterback (1975-1977) Rodney Allison has gathered a legion of former Tech coaches and players for the game today.
"I'm bringing back almost every single assistant coach who has ever coached here," said Allison to Texas Tech.com.
"I picked Arkansas for that very reason. Almost every single one of them coached in the Southwest Conference. This is a special game."
Allison also commented on the SWC and the rivalry that was Arkansas/Texas Tech. "It's kind of neat to relive those days," Allison said. "A lot of former Tech athletes, that's what they knew, the Southwest Conference. That's the conference they played in."
"It was such a good conference for such a long time, arguably the top one or two in the country during that time," Allison continued. "With Arkansas, I don't think it would be up there with Texas or Texas A&M, but it was definitely a rivalry."
Arkansas should win this football game. The primary concerns for the Hogs are that this is a true road game and that the Razorbacks secondary will be tested against head coach Kliff Kingsbury's prolific aerial attack.
I think it will end up being a shootout. Texas Tech will most likely have the advantage early, but I believe the Hogs will flex their SEC West muscles in the 2nd half.
Prediction: Arkansas 45 Texas Tech 35
