UK's Calipari Agrees to $52.5 Million Contract

Steve Austin was the Six Million Dollar Man, but John Calipari can buy and sell him almost nine times over. Today, the University of Kentucky offered their head basketball coach a hefty $52.5 million deal over the next seven seasons.
"I'd like to thank (athletic director) Mitch (Barnhart) and (president) Dr. (Eli) Capilouto for their commitment to me, my family and the basketball staff," Calipari said.
"I've said over and over that I have the best job in the country," Calipari continued. "With the continued support from our administration and the greatest, craziest, fans in college basketball, we have accomplished a lot in our five quick years, but we still have lofty goals for the future. We want to continue to help young people and their families reach their dreams, while at the same time maintaining our success on the basketball court, in the classroom and in the community."
Kentucky was the preseason No. 1 team in the 2013-2014 season. Despite struggling during the regular season, the Cats made it all the way to the National Championship game, but lost to UConn.
Calipari took the Wildcats to an NCAA National Championship, three Final Fours and four Elite Eight appearances in his five seasons as Kentucky's basketball coach.
