Concert organizer Dr. Fred Mayer "Outstanding in his field."
Local musician, teacher and organic farmer, Dr. Fred Mayer from Berryville, is one of the principal organizers of a Spring Equinox Concert to be held on March 21st at the Auditorium in Eureka Springs.
"The purpose of the concert is to recognize and celebrate our connection to the earth, it's sounds, colors, and vibrations," said Mayer. "As a musician and a farmer I've learned to listen to the "music" our beautiful earth makes.
"An equinox occurs twice a year--around the 20th of March and the 22nd of September," Mayer continued. "It's when the plane of Earth's equator passes the center of the sun and the tilt of the Earth's axis is straight up towards the sun. When this happens, night and day are about equal in length. Our concert and dance event celebrates the beginning of spring, and everyone in the community is invited to share the renewal that arrives with it."
The evening includes original musical compositions for an acoustic concert, new dances choreographed for the event, and the introduction of musical instruments built especially for the performance. The performance features musicians, dancers, singers, and other artists from the local area.
The idea for the concert came from a series of "Seasonal Harmonizing Concerts" first performed by Fabien Maman, the founder of modern vibrational therapy. "These concerts go back in history to a time when sacred arts were the foundation of music and healing," said Maman. "Since ancient times, humans have understood that some music and sounds are an expression of the Creator's universal tone. "When played, these acoustic sounds bring human beings, nature, and the cosmos into healing harmony."
In addition to vibrational therapy concepts, the idea of renewal will be expressed in a number of other ways during the event. Growers from local plant nurseries have donated seedlings and spring bedding plants available for a nominal donation at the event. Attendees can take home their own living symbol of spring as a memento, and as a way to "pay forward" the renewal, all money raised at the door and from the plant sale will be donated to Arco Iris Earth Care Project
"We would like to find a few local sponsors for the event," Mayer said. "This is a chance for individuals as well as local groups and businesses to support a truly unique, first-of-its-kind event in the area, and to partner with a group reaching a new audience in northwest Arkansas."
The Spring Equinox Concert will be held Friday, March 21, at 7:00 p.m. in the AUD, 32 South Main Street, Eureka Springs, Arkansas 72632. Admission will be $5 for adults and $2 for youth at the door. The concert is the highlight and one of several events during Eureka Springs' My Wellness Festival to be held the week of the spring equinox, March 15 -- 22.
