On Saturday, October 8, 2011, from 12:00 and ending at dusk, the public is invited to attend a day of food, festivities, and family fun as Carroll County Fresh and the Holiday Island Health Center present the 2011 Harvesting the Good Life Fall Festival at the Park in Holiday Island.
"We've all had a long hot summer," said Richard Pille, the event organizer. "Now it's time to celebrate the fall season and offer thanks to everyone for their tremendous support of our farmers' markets, our local grocery stores and restaurants and, most of all, to our local farmers who've worked so hard to produce our food."
The focus of Harvesting the Good Life is on how local food and local buying contributes to our economy and our physical health and well-being. The day features a county-wide farmers market with locally produced food by farmers from Holiday Island, Green Forest, Berryville and Eureka Springs. The fun continues with cooking demonstrations and cooking contests. Folks attending the event get to judge the winners of the contests by making a "spare change" donation to Carroll County Fresh in available jars at each cooking site.
Everyone is invited to participate in health and beauty demonstrations, Karate and Yoga demonstrations, and Zumba street dancing. Other activities include live music, a beer garden sponsored by the Elks Club, craft vendors, a safety demonstration by Carroll County Electric, and Life Flight helicopter demonstrations. Dr.Jim Fain will be available for health consultation and will offer product samples, and more.
In addition to sponsoring the beer garden, the Elks Club will hold an after dark Bingo game to benefit Carroll County FRESH.
